PRESS RELEASE from Zitoway, on the state of safety in and around Tunisia
Dear colleagues,
this announcement is just to inform you that we have just returned from Tunisia, where has just been held the 8 th edition of the Chott Marathon Xtreme in the area between the oasis of Tozeur and Nefta.
It 'was the occasion of our first return to Tunisia after the unfortunate events of January 2011 and we want to update you with experienced first-hand information from us and the runners take part to race in these days.
The situation appeared quite normal and there, in any way, we never had the impression that the security for us tourists in the country was under discussion.
The things we have seen and experienced were a little 'in contrast with the information from the media in relation to the real development of the situation in the country, demonstrating this, we met tourists around the oasis of Nefta and Tozeur, groups of French and Spanish, in our hotel we met a group of Norwegian adolescents of about 40 girls and then 4 buses with more than 130 young French students, all in a learning vacation in the country, accompanied by their teachers.
In the country is taken up the flow of foreign tourism, and not only in the seaside area, there are German, French, Spanish and Eastern European countries together with representatives of other states, while the presence of Italian tourism has suffered a stop almost total and this shows that our information on the country are not in line with those provided by other foreign entities, but we want to limit to describe what we saw and experienced in the days of our stay.
Certainly, the path of democracy in Tunisia will be long and arduous, but, together with the fact sometimes overlooked, that in all the clashes in the past, even on hot days, no one tourist was ever involved, we happily add that , that we have lived leaves us much more comfortable and optimistic.
The first session of voting for the Constituent Assembly has given a very strong signal of willingness to change in the country, people want to share and build a new democratic Tunisia, a sincere wish for this country.
Keep training because in March we will be back in Tunisia with the 14th edition of the 100 km of Sahara.
Best wishes to all
Adriano Zito
