THREE WEEKS TO GO!!!!!!!
the London to Brighton 100km off road challenge has attracted some interest from BBC radio Sheffield this year. on Friday the 8Th June i will be at the studios in shorham street studios with Rony Robinson, and doing a live link with Kerry Levins, a blind ex-serviceman, who i will be accompanying on this challenge together with his training partner, and his dog for about 5 hours.
Kerry will explain about his involvement as a beneficiary of Blind Veterans UK and reasons for putting himself through this daunting challenge.
Now i can imagine not being able to speak, and even not being able to hear, maybe good at times, ahahah, but joking apart , i really cant imagine what it must feel like not being able to see. I have an immense admiration for what Kerry is about to put himself through.
The race, which will start from Richmond rugby club at 10am on Sat 9Th June, follows a path through Forrest and woodland, across downs and footpaths, ending some 100km distance away in Avingdean Brighton, at the Blind Veterans UK rehabilitation center.
how long will this challenge take???
hard to estimate, I haven't actually met Kerry yet, but lets have a go at between 18 and 20 hours. Last year 215 challengers started out in Richmond, 41% of starters dropped out during the challenge… …but 127 managed to cross the finish line, only 40 challengers finished within 24 hours!
I am looking forward, with a bit of trepidation, to this challenge, which will be good training for a bigger challenge later in the year.
if your in hear shot of Radio Sheffield Tune in on Friday The 8th at around noon
If your from Richmond area come along and give us a cheer
keepin touch with this link i will post progress as it happens
