I took part in the Rowbotham Round Rotherham 2011. This was my first endurance run. I had never run more than a marathon before this event.
We started the race at 6 am. It was dark and the stars were shining it was a great start to a race, and more importantly it was dry - I hate running in the rain and mud.
It turned in to a mild sunny day - great running conditions.
Along the journey three of my dearest friends joined me on the course, one of them being Ray Matthews, the founder of this web site and it felt like any other Saturday run. Towards the end my husband and pooch came to meet me and finished the last miles of the race together. there was a lot of support along the way and I cannot thank enough all the people who had given up their Saturday to support all the runners and walkers hat day. The support was fab.
Ray inspired me to try long distance running. It was because of his amazing adventures I wanted to have one of my own and how better to share it than with friends and family. It is because of my friends who I met through running and mostly Ray that I have accomplished so much with running.
I would recommend running to anyone who is thinking of trying it, or who wants a new hobby or stress relief. I used to hate running but once I learnt to appreciate the hard work it takes I also appreciated what I got out of it. I made lots of friends, started to feel good about myself - lost weight! and realised that with a strong mind and great friends I can accomplish anything.
I enjoyed every minute of the Rowbotham Round Rotherham and will be definitely taking part in the 2012 event.
